From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Australia (pronounced /əˈstreɪljə, ɒˈstreɪljə/, or formally /ɔːˈstreɪliə/), officially the Commonwealth of Australia, is a country in the southern hemisphere comprising the mainland, which is both the world's smallest continent and the world's largest island, the island of Tasmania, and numerous other islands in the Indian and Pacific Oceans. It is the only area of land simultaneously considered a continent, a country and an island. Neighbouring countries include Indonesia, East Timor and Papua New Guinea to the north, the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and New Caledonia to the north-east and New Zealand to the southeast. For around 40,000 years before European settlement commenced in the late 18th century, the Australian mainland and Tasmania were inhabited by around 250 individual nations of indigenous Australians. After sporadic visits by fishermen from the immediate north, and European discovery by Dutch explorers in 1606, the eastern half of Australia was claimed by the British in 1770 and initially settled through penal transportation to the colony of New South Wales, founded on 26 January 1788. The population grew steadily in the following years; the continent was explored, and during the 19th century another five largely self-governing Crown Colonies were established. On 1 January 1901, the six colonies became a federation, and the Commonwealth of Australia was formed. Since Federation, Australia has maintained a stable liberal democratic political system and remains a Commonwealth realm. The population is just over 21.7 million, with approximately 60% concentrated in and around the mainland state capitals of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, and Adelaide. The nation's capital city is Canberra, located in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT). Technologically advanced and industrialised, Australia is a prosperous multicultural country and has excellent results in many international comparisons of national performance such as health care, life expectancy, quality-of-life, human development, public education, economic freedom, and the protection of civil liberties and political rights. Australian cities also routinely rank among the world's highest in terms of livability, cultural offerings, and quality of life. It is a member of the United Nations, G-20 major economies, Commonwealth of Nations, ANZUS, OECD, and the WTO. From Wikipedia under the

G'day, Unfortunately you did not mention the area of study that you intend to do for your graduate course. To find out the course that you are taking and where it is offered, I suggest you to go to IDP Education Australia website (www.idp.edu.au). IDP is an organisation that gives information to international students who wants to continue their study in Australia. The information abt tuition fee and requirement will be available from the universities' website. Once decided on the uni, fill in the application form and send it together with certified copy of your academic qualification. The process will take abt 2-3weeks, depending on the time of the year. Hope this helps. Good luck for your study and welcome to Australia :) Answered by Batako - Fri May 18 03:12:22 2007 Is there anywhere in Australia that i can get personalised baby clothes? Q. They could do any writing she wanted as well...not just the name. The tops and bibs she bought from them were really good quality as well as the writing on them. Good luck. Answered by West Aussie Chick - Mon Oct 15 04:30:24 2007 How much would it cost Australia to build its own space program?
Q. I'm doing a debate next Wednesday and our teams is negative. So we are saying that 'Australia should NOT have its own space program.' I've tried searching the NASA website and everywhere else but couldn't find the cost of actually building a space program. Any space workers out there or anyone that can help me please? Asked by SpunkRansom 4 Me - Thu Mar 5 03:09:57 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. lol...im doing exactly the same debate on wednesday against Lourdes Hill. We're Negative too... I'm trying to look for the same statistic, all I know is one space shuttle costs about 1.7 billion US and a launch is around 450 million. Im pretty sure actually building a space program though would take it into the tens of billions. Good luck :) Answered by PT - Fri Mar 6 19:13:33 2009 From Yahoo Answer Search: "australia" The Commonwealth of Australia is a country in the southern hemisphere comprising the mainland of the world's smallest continent, the major island of Tasmania and a number of other islands in the Indian and Pacific Oceans.
